There are so many things to do when you are at the Nursery.
Toys and space to play
The Rockinghorse day nursery gives children of all ages the opportunity to learn through play. Exploring how things work through construction toys, train sets, large building blocks and all manner of sorting and matching toys and activities.
The nursery children have free access to every kind of toy from jigsaws and games to a large sandpit, slide and water play.
Make a display
The Rockinghorse day nursery gives all children the opportunity to create their own masterpieces using paint, glue, collage materials, lots of different painting utensils, brushes and sponges.
The children also have fun contributing to group displays. Group displays give rise to lots of interaction and discussion between the children and the nursery staff.
Books and stories
The nursery book shelves are well stocked with well loved stories from all well known children's authors. Children are able to learn how to handle, look at and respect books in our cosy and comfortable book corner. There are also group story times where children learn to sit together, listen, and join in with a story being read by a member of staff.
Fresh air and fun
One main feature of the Rockinghorse nursery is outdoor play. We are firm believers in fresh air and fun! All nursery children, including the babies (who can sit and watch), join together in our outdoor play areas. Group activities include - circle games, riding bikes and scooters, digging and building in our large sandpit, role play in our wendy houses or just sitting on our little benches and having a nice rest and chatting to friends and members of staff! All these activities encourage personal and social skills.
The babies also have their own large outdoor playpen which enables them to be free to crawl and play outdoors without having to be placed into pushchairs.
Little Gardeners
The Rockinghorse "Little Gardeners" programme helps children to learn how to plant and grow vegetables and flowers in our specially constructed children's garden. We encourage the children to care for the environment through re-cycling, composting, water collection and feeding leftovers to our large wormery composter.
The Nursery children proudly take home the flowers and vegetables which they have carefully planted, tended and watered over many months. The children learn that vegetables do not grow in supermarkets and they learn about a healthy diet through cooking and eating the vegetables which they have grown. The children also learn how good vegetables taste!
Singing and Dancing
Music sessions, music and movement and physical exercises are a daily part of the Rockinghorse curriculum.
