Welcome to our Pre-school newsletter! Hello everyone, Summer is here and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has sent us postcards whilst on holiday, we love receiving them! During July, our enhanced provision was 'Different Forms of Transport'. We had lots of fun using: water and boats - developing knowledge and understanding by talking about floating and sinking, a part of our program for becoming competent learners. cars, trucks, lorries, the garage and car mat - we were able to develop the children's mathmatical skills and help them become great little communicators by asking open ended questions when talking about how many wheels, the shape and sizes of wheels and cars and by using the car mat as a road map, negotiating left and right turns and planning our route from A to B. picture books and stories - we shared stories about Thomas the Tank Engine, Postman Pat and lots of other appropriate characters and the children found lots of interesting picture books of diggers, fire engines, boats and all manner of things that move! In August we will be using a map of the world poster to look at and talk about places the children have visited - could you help us by providing a small photograph of your child to stick onto a place they have visited. We are sure that this project will develop the childrens knowledge and understanding of the world. We are taking part in the Library Reading Scheme again and the children are excited about receiving their stickers and medals for all their hard work and good behaviour whilst looking at books and listening to stories. All staff have attended early years foundation stage training and we are implementing the guidance using the new 4 principles and 16 commitments which is very exciting. We have also slightly changed our planning. We are planning more for the individual child. All your childs significant moments are now on their Key persons individual development sheet, these are then transferred into each childs individual folder which parents are able to take home whenever they wish. We also provide core provision, where resources are available to children all the time, and in addition we provide enhanced provision where additional resources are added to the core provision - this enhanced provision being changed monthly. We are very sorry to see children leaving to enter school and we miss them all greatly. We feel that we have given them the best possible start to their school life! Our 2yr old children are now moving up to pre-school. They have had a very smooth transition and they are enjoying lots of new experiences in our well equipped pre-school room. Kindest regards from all the pre-school staff.
